History
Southpark Roundabout was the idea of Matty Hunt. Matty was a respected singer on the local circuit but had the desire to form a band. Matty then met Marcky Wild an exceptional guitarist who shared the same desire. Matty and Mark quickly established much common musical ground and decided to work together.
They expanded the band by bringing in Mark's brother Johnny; initially on guitar but now firmly established as the bands bass player. Although originally, a covers band, the boys soon discovered that they had a talent for songwriting. All of the songs that can be heard on this site have been written in whole or in part by Mark, Johnny, & Matty, with the exception of "Control Freak", on which Johnny collaborated with good friend of the band, Jay Mckiernon.
Drummers in various incarnations came and went until drum technician Martin 'Boris' Collins became a permanent member of the band in March 2007. Martin quickly established himself as an integral part of the Southpark Roundabout sound. Live performances around the Lincoln area began to sell out on a regular basis as the word spread of their excellence and Southpark Roundabout soon attracted a passionate and loyal local following.
In March 2007, the band entered Chapel Studios, Alford, to record the first five songs of a debut album. The studio has previously been used by the Arctic Monkeys and the Kaiser Chief's for their debut albums and the band worked with the same sound engineers. The tracks you can listen to on this web site have been greeted with huge critical acclaim. The band were asked to play before local club Lincoln City FC's sell out play off semi final and were screened live by Sky Sports. In June 2007, they played to a sell out crowd at Lincoln's Theatre Royal. An audience, including journalists from the BBC and the Sun newspaper were in attendance. The Sun gave a glowing review in the Bizarre column and from that "Tell Me" was released as a download single and reached Number 1 in the 7 Digital Download chart. Appearances on BBC TV and Radio followed and the band have recently recorded more tracks at Chapel Studio's in anticipation of a debut album. In August of last year, the band attracted the attention of legendary producer John Leckie. Although John is a very busy man, he found time to listen to some of the tracks and recommended the band to his close friend, Chris Brown. Chris is credited with work on The Beatles Anthologies, The Bends album by Radiohead and Blur amongst many more illustrious artists. He has recently agreed to work on the bands material, and the band is proud to have such a prestigious talent working alongside them.
The future promises much for Southpark Roundabout; a band that strives for musical excellence and promise a live performance that cannot be bettered.
